Small Guy’s house is more secure – Thanks to Silverhammer!
Where do I begin? My relationship with George and Theresa Langabeer, owners of SilverHammer Surveillance, goes back about 17 years. I worked with George doing security at Westroad’s Mall and later on with Theresa and George when I worked at Shopko in Bellevue. As a lot of friendships we kind of fell out of contact for a while, but in the last few years have again found each other. George was one of the business consulted with when I made the decision to start doing vendor events. I wanted to know if my idea was something that would work and benefit business owners. With his feedback and some from others the green light was given and the rest is history as they say. SilverHammer has been with us for almost every event that we have held for the last almost 3 years.
Fast forward to present day…As a promoter of the Small Guy I like to patron different businesses and events throughout Omaha while capturing my experiences. With these photos and videos I often share on social media to give people an idea of what they can expect if they were to visit that location. I will often do a review on for Google Local Guides as well. Being close with the Langabeer’s, I wanted to make sure to express my appreciation for a recent install that they did at our home.
Okay, so since my dog, Rock, passed away I have been feeling that our home is less secure. Rock was a 75lb pit mix so I always thought that if something were to happen at the house he would be the protector if no one was home. When we were out of town we would have dog-sitters that would come and go at least once a day and this made me feel comfortable in case any potential home invader was watching the house. I don’t have that comfort now. When we go out of town I hate leaving the outside light on 24 hours and not having foot traffic entering or exiting the house. That’s where SilverHammer comes in!
I contacted George and told him about the situation and how there seems to be a decent amount of suspicious activity going in my neighborhood. I made a trip down to the shop located at 501 S 16th St, Omaha, NE 68102 in Downtown Omaha. George asked for some detail about the house like size and location. He explained the options that he thought would be good for us and let us decide what we thought would work. With today’s technological advances it is easy to monitor your surveillance system by simply logging into a nifty phone app (Alibi). You can also log in via a computer, but when you’re on the go and away from home this is an awesome option to have. After some months of deliberation my wife and I decided that we should go ahead and get the install scheduled.
When SilverHammer came to do the install it took less than 2 hours for them to complete; little to no disruption of our day. Would you believe me if I told you that less than a week after the install a car was stolen from a house a few blocks away and the criminal dumped the car just a couple houses down from our house? True story! My wife came home from shopping and Omaha Police and the owners of the stolen vehicle were standing outside. My wife informed them that we had a surveillance system recently installed and that we would review the footage to see if there was anything helpful. My wife did find the footage of the thief dumping the vehicle at about 4:00 AM, but unfortunately he was parked across the street and didn’t come to our side when he walked by. If he would have walked on our side of the street we may have been able to capture his face. Even though we couldn’t help provide assistance it confirmed that we made the right decision by taking this step to protect our home.
A surveillance system won’t stop crime, but maybe it can help catch something that goes on in your neighborhood. I am more than happy that we made this decision and the money that we spent to have this done does not compare to the peace of mind that I now have. That is worth a million bucks!
