Dear 10th Planet – Omaha,
Thank you! Thank you for turning my daughter into a confident and strong young lady! Last week we attended class for Belt Testing and I could not have been more proud of my daughter. Though we have attended class for years, we only go once a week due to all the other responsibilities that we have so it has taken some time to advance belt levels. I have told her to not worry about the belts as I know she is learning and that is what is most important.
Well, last week she received the gray belt with a white stripe after class and while that was a HUGE accomplishment that was not my most proud moment. During class she was rolling with an orange belt and during a takedown attempt she left her neck exposed allowing her to get caught in a guillotine choke; she couldn’t get out and had to tap. Here is where my proudest moment would begin! There was still time on the clock so the round of rolling continued. She got right back in it and attempted another takedown although she was again unsuccessful. She ended up in bottom position, but she did not allow this to stop her. She utilized one of her favorite moves, “The Lockdown”, to sweep her opponent and reverse position giving her top position. She passed the guard and ended in side control just before time ran out.
On the way home I asked if her partner was tough to which she responded, “Uh-uh, I’m tough!” My daughter is pretty reserved and often is as nonchalant as they come. So to hear these strong words of confidence and self-esteem was a great moment for me as a parent. I owe all of the credit to the awesome instructors at the Dojo. Thank you Ant, JP, Brandon, Derek, Matt, and Eddy! You guys are a big reason that I know even with all the bad in the world I can sleep a little more sound knowing my baby will know how to protect herself!
